Durham University Solar Car, DUSC, is a solar powered car being developed to compete in the World Solar Challenge, a race held biennially in Australia, by a team within the School of Engineering at Durham University. First established in 2004, the team, with the latest car (DUSC2008), competed in their first event, the North American Solar Challenge in July this year as the only UK entry.
2008
Competing against multi-million pound rivals, a team of Durham's engineering students set out to race their solarpowered car across North America. The undergraduate-led team embarked on the 2500 miles as the only British entry to rise to the ‘North American Solar Challenge'.
At the awards ceremony and we are surprised but delighted when the team is announced as 'Best Rookie Team', as the highest placed newcomer to the event. The team is currently working on further developing the car and recruiting sponsors for their next campaign - the World Solar Challenge, a race across Australia in October 2009.
